Normally, I would put an interview up today, but I figured everyone is probably madly scrambling doing holiday/christmasy things so I thought I would indulge myself. I’ve watched the trailer for The Hobbit. Who hasn’t?
Sigh … Love that deep, melodic male singing.
Since this is the silly season I’ve compiled a list of the directors I would like to see turn my books into movies/TV series. Here goes:
Peter Jackson. Why? Because he took LOTR and did what I did when I read it for to boys. He picked the narrative high points. He knows how to craft a story. Have you seen The Frighteners?
Allan Ball. Why? Because I’m impressed by his interpretation of Charlaine Harris’s books – the humour, the exploration of prejudice and the humanity. A very perceptive man.
Guillermo del Toro. Why? I find his sensibility fascinating. Look at what he did with Pan’s Labyrinth and the backstory of Hellboy 2. Something can be both beautiful and frigthening.
So there you have it. This is what writers daydream about when they should be writing …

Funny, my daydreams are usually about soundtracks. I’ve never daydreamed about actors or directors. Maybe because I am so absolutely talentless when it comes to music? Composers are mysterious creatures to me. More mysterious than the ones working on the visuals. I want a Howard Shore (LotR) soundtrack. John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Alexandre Desplat (Deathly Hallows) or Rachel Portman (Chocolat) also highly desirable 🙂

I could imagine a sound track heavily influenced by “Clannad” (Last of the Mohicans) for your KRK movies. 🙂

I second Alfonso Cuaron for a film adaptation of King Roland’s Kin. He has enough visual flair to make the film/s look original without going overboard as I think del Torro or Jackson may be inclined to do.

*sighs, daydreaming* I love your choices. Pan’s Labryrinth was an amazing film that had me close to tears by the end. If there was anyone else to suggest, I’d say Steven Spielburg – because his mind is one I’ll never fully understand. It’s incredible the ideas he comes up with, and see everything he creates. Hey, if I ever end up working higher up in the film industry, I’d love to work on one of your books! I’m a makeup artist – just finished my diploma. ^^ I think that would be awesome.
