It must be holidays …

I’ve noticed the number of hits on my site has gone up over Christmas. I can only think of two reasons.

People got copies of my books for Christmas. (Thank you for giving my books as presents, who ever you are!).

And/or people have time on their hands over Christmas holidays and are surfing the net.

Of course, if you are like me then you probably have less time over the Christmas holidays. Why did I think renovating and writing the new trilogy at the same time would be a good idea?

As one who recieved such a present and who does not normally read fantasy fiction of this ilk, may I say how much I enjoyed the story.
I was given The Usurper as a present and complained that it was the third in a trilogy! Within days I was presented with The King’s Bastard and the promise of The Uncrowned King when stocks were replenished after Christmas.
Against my normal tastes I sampled The Bastard and devoured it. Unable to await the replenishing I tracked down The Uncrowned King on Thursday, read it and have just completed The Ursurper ten minutes ago…..So I now know it’s not a trilogy…..Which leaves only one question – When will book four be available? I NEED the ending of the story!!!
Ah well, at least I have a Lee Child, a Karen Rose and two Michael Connellys to tide me over this week. Any chance you can have No.4 finished by Monday week?

otherwise…to quote Firefly….”I’m going to my bunk!”

      • Luuurve Firefly, Cliff.

I use clips from it when I teach film and story. Brilliant!

So I gathered……if you ever want a bad example of all aspects of film production try Bloodrayne II …… but remember, if you watch it, that it is almost two hours of your life that you will never get back!
I say this after almost 40 years in TV production. The last twelve being devoted to saving The Bill – and failing miserably!
        Very best wishes
        Cliff
PS I only discovered Firefly this Christmas thanks to my eldest son and his long term girl friend. What a shame it missed recommissioning! Great characterisation and classic space opera!

      • Hard to believe Firefly was canceled. What were they thinking?
My uncle loved The Bill. It must be hard to put your heart into something and it not have the success you hoped. Joss Whedon says not a day goes by that he doesn’t he regret not bring able to take Firefly further. (Whooo, too many negatives, but I think it still makes sense ).

My DH and I are addicted to finding obscure and interesting TV series/movies. For totally obscure try John from Cincinnati. LOL

        Loved:
Deadwood, The Wire, OZ among others. Also love British humour, IT Crowd (It’s too real, Roy), Red Dwarf etc.

If you come across anything interesting, let me know.

      I wish!

I have to hand in my new fantasy trilogy, The Outcast Chronicles’ early this year. Then I have to knuckle down and write some more KRK. I’m really looking forward to finding out what happens to Piro, Byren, Fyn, Orrie and Florin.

Thank you for the kind words.

Okay, not stalking here, but I love your list of faves..Deadwood, I believe, is probably one of the best television shows in the past 30 years. Even more so as it finally gave Ian McShane the standing in Hollywood that he always desired. (I worked with him for some years on Lovejoy.)
Oz featured Eamonn Walker who I rated as an excellent actor when he was on The Bill – and so few of the Bill cast ever really moved on to better things! (He is also a good chap!)
I also worked on Red Dwarf, which is a classic!
I do have The Wire on dvd, but have not got into yet.
I am hooked on finding really, really, bad movies to torture my kids with…(all of whom are into production in one way or another)…if you can find a copy of Project Genocide starring Robert Vaughan and Christopher Lee, give it a watch. Lee as the leader of a viscious team of telepathic aliens is so awful that he deserved an award. Incidentally, why does any film sponsored by the Film Board of Canada always turn out to be a turkey?

I have taken up too much of your time, especially as the 4th KRK is so far away, my apologies and best wishes,
    Cliff

    • Isn’t it a weird world when you feel you have to start a comment with ‘not stalking’?????

Did you work on Sexy Beast? Ian McShane was in that. A really clever premise. And Ben Kingsley radiated such a dangerous presence while dressed in a short sleeved white shirt!

I don’t know if I could bear to watch really bad movies just for the fun of it. Having said that I have watched Ed Wood.

All my kids are creative in some way or another. It’s a tough way to make a living.

Unfortunatel I only worked with Ian on Lovejoy and a couple of little personal projects so I did not work Sexy Beast, however I do believe that Ralph Fiennes paid homage to Kingsleys performance with his character in “In Bruges”!
The stalking comment felt neccessary as anyone in the public eye must always be on guard for weirdos, and I don’t think I am one…weirdo that is!
Ed Wood is definately the iconic classic creator of turkeys, but with the proliferation of TV and film drama I am astounded at the quantity of naff projects that find funding and sometimes massive funding at that….look at Ewe Bolls work. He, in my mind, is a strong contender for Ed Woods crown!

I only watch bad films to remind myself what constitutes a good film and to be aware how little some producers understand the production process. You can only recognise a good film when you have horrendous ones to compare them with – both in production and writing.
And yes, any career needing creativity is difficult to survive in, but what fun! I have spent my life there and wouldn’t have it any other way!
I must away to bed, so I bid you a good day and my thanks for a very rewarding read, both published and electronic!
        Regards

        Cliff
